In honor of National Autism Acceptance Month, the Burlington Police Department will host an Autism Awareness Family Day on Saturday, April 25, 2026, from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., in the police department parking lot at 267 West Front Street, Burlington, NC. This event encourages positive interactions between first responders and community members with autism, supporting inclusion, awareness, and understanding.
Attendees will have the opportunity to:
•Meet and engage with police officers, firefighters, and telecommunicators.
•Learn how first responders interact with individuals on the autism spectrum
•Visit informational booths from local schools, public safety agencies, and community resources
•Explore first responder vehicles, which will be present without sirens to ensure a sensory-friendly environment
